living in the rhine-main region has many advantages, one of the main ones being the proximity to many wine regions in germany: rheingau, nahe, palatinate and rhine hesse can be reached in around an hour and a half.

you won't have visited all the wineries there, but you will have a rough idea of what makes the wine region special. that's why our vacation in portugal was also about broadening our horizons and gaining a better understanding of the douro valley wine region. this works best with a road trip and visits to wineries - which is not mutually exclusive if you only taste.
