hanamikoji-dori at night

Preparing for a street photography shooting you would most likely grab your lightest and most concealed camera body and a 35mm equivalent lens, hoping for good weather and place yourself at a spot that promises interesting pictures. Well, we did a certain different kind of street photography in Kyoto.

Hanamikoji street is a well known place in the Gion district with a nostalgic appearance full of shops and restaurants. By night the street is highly frequented by cabs bringing and picking up tourists or locals.

When raining the lights of the shops and restaurants are beautifully reflected in the pavement surface. We took the chance and equipped ourselves with the heavy gear: a tripod, rain protection and various lenses. Besides becoming pretty drenched some very atmospheric pictures emerged. It was worth it.
